What is the Smart Grid? — Part 2

In my previous post, I gave a brief overview of the Smart Grid. There are many other resources on the Web that provide a good introductory overview of the Smart Grid.

Websites:

Videos:

  1. PBS: Smart Grid
  2. GE Reports: Smart Grid Discussion

Technical Articles:

IEEE Journals such as the Transactions on Smart Grids, the Power and Energy Magazine etc. are good sources for keeping up with the latest in academic research. Here are a couple of papers that provide a good overview of the Smart Grid (unfortunately IEEE does not provide free access to the papers):

  1. F. Li, W. Qiao, H. Sun, H. Wan, J. Wang, Y. Xia, Z. Xu, P. Zhang; “Smart Transmission Grid: Vision and Framework”, IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, vol. 1, issue 2, pp. 168 – 177, 2010.
  2. E. Santacana, G. Rackliffe, Le Tang, Xiaoming Feng, “Getting Smart”, IEEE Power and Energy Magazine, vol. 8, issue 2, pp. 41 – 48, 2010.

The second one is ABB’s position paper on the Smart Grid. It’s authors are the CEO and VPs of ABB.

These resources should give you a good idea about the Smart Grid.
